Greensboro sculptor, art professor behind iconic statues seen throughout city

February 09, 2016

Greensboro sculptor and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University art professor, James Barnhill, is the man behind some iconic figures seen throughout the city.

He sculpted the statue of the “A&T Four,” the statue of Nathanial Greene on McGee Street and the statue of Minerva on the campus of the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Right now, Barnhill has a good bit of his other work on display at the High Point Theatre Art Galleries.

Among the many sculptures in the show, you’ll find one he did of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and another of Rosa Parks.
